Activities on Kauai

Kauai offers spectacular scenery due to the eons of erosion that have created steep mountains that display hundreds of waterfalls, dramatic mountain pinnacles, and deeply fissured valleys, all of which are lushly carpeted with vegetation.

There are many ways to take in these beautiful sights:

Air

The most popular activity on Kauai are the helicopter tours. There’s no other way to see some of the most dramatic views of the island’s interior and most companies do a great job of educating their guests while flying over the island. Flights leave from Lihue, where the main airport is, as well as from the Princeville Airport on the North Shore. These tours are not for everyone, but those who have the stomach for it will see the island from a very special perspective.

Water

There are many tours that run up and down the West Shore of the island, known as the Na Pali Coast, where the land falls sharply into the deep ocean and incredible views of the island can be seen while also viewing marine wildlife such as whales, dolphins, sea turtles and many different types of fish. Boat tours range from adventurous Zodiac rides, where you are sure to get wet, to sunset cruises on large sailboats with drinks and appetizers.

Land

Whether by hiking, biking, horseback riding, or ATV driving, there are many trails and vistas to be explored in and around the mountains of Kauai. From wildlife to vegetation, exploring Kauai up close will amaze and delight you. The interior of the island can also be viewed by paddling up one of the many rivers either by kayak or paddle board. If you really want something different, you can go mountain tubing through old irrigation passages that will give you a unique perspective of Kauai from the plantation days and into areas difficult to otherwise access.

Beaches

Among the long list of places to see on Kauai, it is our beaches that have the most to offer. Over 90 miles of the islands coast are beach, that is nearly 40 percent of the shoreline. So many beaches, so little time! Our beaches are all different and, depending on the beach, offer activities such as surfing, body boarding, kite surfing, snorkeling, fishing, and many other fun things to do.
