Why choose Kilauea?
Hale Mana Kauai is a home and property that is hard to describe. No pictures do it justice and no words convey how special and impressive it is. Kauai is a spectacular island in Hawaii and those who are familiar with all of the Hawaiian islands tend to choose Kauai for its' superior beaches, pristine views and relaxed & friendly community. A magnificent home in a magnificent location. The owners of this home were once guests who fell in love with Hale Mana and several years later became the proud owners.

What makes this estate unique?
Hale Mana Kauai would be an ideal location for a spiritual retreat. The previous couple who owned the home also built it and they were inspired by the spiritual power of the location. Standing on the edge of the bluff the views are indescribably awesome. The beautiful blue ocean stretches across the sweeping views and goes beyond the emerald green slopes of Kauai plunging into the sea. The name Hale Mana in Hawaiian means House of Power/Lifeforce. Come stay in this special spot and you will see exactly what I mean and what inspired the original grand construction.

The owners of this exquisite estate are a hard working successful couple with three grown children and a love for life and the values of family and down time. They have asked me, Thomas Beebe, to help them make this home available to other people who will enjoy and respect it during time periods when they and their family are not using the home. I have known and been impressed with this property since I came to Kauai in 1999 and am thrilled to know the new owners and take care of this precious home for them... and for you.

Thomas Beebe purchased this estate in 2010

    1. How secluded would you say the beach is?

Very. The public access to this beach is difficult and so usually only expert surfers or ambitious fisherman visit the beach.

    2. How long is the path and is it easy to travel?

Your private path takes about 12 minutes from cottage to sand and it drops around 350 feet in elevation so the walk there is easy. The walk back includes about 200 stairs. Most of our guests find it invigorating. There are many beautiful things along the way, such as nesting albatross, so slow down and make the trip fun and interesting.

    3. Are the waters off the beach good for snorkeling?

There is a large and shallow reef that protects the beach year round, but it makes it difficult to swim. The water comes in over it and finds channels to get back out to sea. Unless it is very calm, these are not good conditions for swimming particularly in the deeper areas. On the edge of the sand there are several places where there are natural sandy bottomed pools to cool off and play in. There are many wonderful snorkeling spots a short drive from Plumeria Moon.

    4. What sort of things like beach chairs and such are available (if any) at the cottage?

We have just about everything for comfort on the beach: umbrellas, beach chairs, sand mats, coolers, towels, and a bottle of aloe vera gel in your bathroom in case you soak up too much sun!

    5. Is the beach below good for swimming?

Conditions can vary dramatically depending on the ocean tide and the time of year. During the winter, the surf is big and the rip-tides can be very strong. For this reason we do not recommend open water swimming during the winter. In the summer, the tides mellow and so does the surf. However, the ocean must always be respected and swimming, surfing, snorkeling, or any other ocean activity is always inherently dangerous. That said, this beach is phenomenal and the privacy you will enjoy makes it an extremely attractive amenity for someone looking for a vacation rental in Kauai. Wave-watching, spying whales, monk seals and other wildlife make it a unique experience, but it is not the best swimming beach around. To get a long open-water swim, we recommend any of these nearby beaches:

    1. Anini Beach
    2. Kalihiwai Beach
    3. Secrets Beach
    4. Rock Quarry Beach
    5. Pila'a Beach
    6. Larson's Beach

The beach is accessible from within the property by walking along a road shared by two other 3-4 acre home sites within the Homeowners Association. We share a dirt path that leads from a trailhead atop the bluffs, along a nature trail down to the beach. For a better feel, please see the video.

    6. Should I stay on the NORTH SHORE or SOUTH SHORE OF KAUAI?

While it is true there can be more rainfall on the north side of the island, this is the very reason why the North Shore is distinctly more green, lush, and rich with tropical plants and wildlife than the South Shore. Kauai is called the "Garden Island" because of the natural beauty that exists throughout the island. However, the idyllic little towns, expansive farms and agriculture, and an obvious lack of large buildings on the North Shore make it clear this name comes from the North Shore.

The large hotels, full service resorts, big box stores, international airport, biggest city on the island, cruise ship port, and 90% of the time-shares and condominiums are all on the South Shore. Meanwhile, exclusive homes, high-end real estate, must-see beach towns, private beaches, and peace and quiet are all on the North Shore.

Of course we are biased because the property is on the North Shore. However, prior to purchasing this property, we looked at homes in Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island of Hawaii. But nothing compared to the lush and tropical area on the North Shore of Kauai. This area truly delivers on the promise of a lush, tropical Hawaiian hideaway.

Finally, even though our property is on the North Shore, we do not get nearly the rainfall as some of the other areas nearby. Clearly, if there is a large storm coming off the ocean, everyone will get wet. However, our place is on the top of a bluff where many of the clouds simply pass right overhead. Unlike the towns such as Hanalei and Haena, we are not tucked right under a large mountain. In those towns, the mountains pull all the water from the ocean and drop it onto the towns. For us, those same clouds pass right by and do not become rain until they hit the mountains further inland.

If you would like to discuss this property further, or if you have any other questions about the island or the surrounding areas, please feel free to contact us any time.

THE COUNTY OF KAUAI REQUIRES THAT ALL LEGAL TVR RENTALS PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON ALL ADVERTISEMENTS:

FOR THE SAFETY AND COMFORT OF YOU AND YOUR NEIGHBORS FOR THE SAFETY AND COMFORT OF YOU AND YOUR NEIGHBORS

Aloha and Welcome to Hale Mana and the Beautiful Garden Island of KAUA'I

    1. Please Be Good Neighbors

Keep noise to a minimum, especially before 8:00 am and after 9:00 pm. Turn off outdoor lights at night whenever possible. We enjoy our dark nights when the stars are bright and beautiful. Of equal importance, our wildlife can become disoriented at night if lights are too bright. County rules allow only 3 vehicles on the property. Please be sure you park only on property; we have plenty of space- parking and driving on the lawn is ok. If you have any questions about our neighbors or how to best be considerate of them, please call Thomas at 808-635-6262.

    2. Beach Safety

Be mindful of the surf. Our shorelines face thousands of miles of open ocean. Northern winter storms and southern summer storms can bring us extremely dangerous surf conditions. NEVER turn your back on the ocean – summer or winter. Rogue waves can appear even in calm surf conditions. You can check oceanconditions at www.KauaiExplorer.com/oceanreport. There are lifeguards at Haena Beach Park, Hanalei Pavilion, Lydgate, Poipu Beach Park, Salt Pond and Kekaha. For your family’s safety, we advise that you check with lifeguards before going into the ocean.

    3. 911

In case of fire or medical emergency, call 9-1-1. The address and phone number of your house is posted inside the front door. For non-emergency assistance, please call Police Dispatch at 241-1711. The phone number for Wilcox Hospital in Lihue is 808-245-1100. The closest emergency treatment center is Mahelona Hospital 808-822-4961 up the hill on your right as you enter Kapa’a. Look for the hospital sign.

    4. Weather

The island does experience flash flooding during periods of heavy rain. If you must drive in this kind of weather, drive with extreme caution. Severe weather could result in the temporary closing of the main road out of Hanalei. For the most up to the minute Traffic and Weather information, please call 808-241-1725. You can also visit www.NOAA.com While at the house, you are safely on high ground.

    5. Disaster Emergencies

On the first business day of each month at 11:45 am, our Civil Defense sirens are tested. However, if you hear these sirens at any other time, please tune to AM radio station KQNG (“KONG”) at AM 570 for real-time reports and instructions. Also, the front of the Kaua’i phone book has emergency, disaster, evacuation and shelter information. Hurricane emergency supplies have been provided and are located in the garage.

    6. Emergency Escape Route

In case of fire, the safest escape route from each downstairs bedroom is through the sliding glass door which leads directly outside. Upstairs bedrooms should exit the home by way of the main stairs then out the front or back door. As soon as safely possible, please call 911.

    7. Security

Although theft in our neighborhood is uncommon, please be cautious with your personal belongings. It is always best to lock up your valuables. Lock the doors and windows when you leave the property.
    8. Beach Access

The beach below the property can be accessed using the public trail which is located just east of the home. Please see the map in the house information binder and respect the signs around the property.

    9. Farming Activity

Please be aware that you are staying on a small working farm which is surrounded by other working farms. With this farm activity comes potential noise, fugitive dust, farm equipment on roads and other environmental impacts.

    10. Island Driving Etiquette

Please honor the posted speed limits. Frequently check your rear view mirror. If more than 4 or 5 cars are stacking up behind you, pull completely off to the side of the road and let them pass. This can also help you when driving at night as our dark roads can be confusing. If you are lost, remember that this is a small island and you will find your way soon. Keep driving until you find a safe place to pull over and turn around. Never make a U-turn on the highway. When navigating the one-lane bridges, cross the bridges in groups of 5 or 6 cars at a time. A simple rule of thumb: Drain the lane; if you arrive late – wait. When parking at the beaches, park, or sight-seeing locations be sure to park fully off the street, in assigned or clearly marked parking spaces. If you want to stop to enjoy the scenery, please pull completely off to the side of the road. We hope you will enjoy your stay on our magical island!

    Jack Harter Helicopter Tours - (888) 245-2001
Jack brought his first helicopter to Kauai in 1962. He had visited the island and knew from his initial experience that the best way to view the spectacular and rugged beauty of Na Pali, the Waimea Canyon, and Wai’ale’ale would be from the safety and comfort of a helicopter.

Each tour is unique. Weather and lighting conditions vary throughout the day, making the above list of scenic areas a guideline of possibilities, not a guarantee. We will often go into side canyons and valleys if the pilot feels there is something interesting to see and weather conditions permit. The only area you will see twice on most tours is the heliport.

Details of what you will see on this tour:

Tour Waimea Canyon, dubbed by Mark Twain as the " Grand Canyon of the South Pacific." Although Mark Twain never visited the island, he must have seen enough of it to judge the unparalleled grandeur of this famous Kauai landmark. It is truly a spectacular sight.

Mount Waialeale is known as the wettest spot on earth with an average annual rainfall of about forty feet. Most of the mountain rain drains into the nearby Alakai Swamp, home to several rare species of plants and birds.

Wailua Falls is also known as Fantasy Island Waterfalls for their cameo appearance weekly in the TV series of the same name.

The legendary Na Pali Coast, with its dramatic cliffs chisled by time to a razor sharp beckoning, is spellbinding no matter how many times you see it. This is the home of the legendary Bali Hai as seen in the 20th Century Fox movie, South Pacific and yes, it is calling you. Will Squyres Helicopter Tours lets you respond.

"When we leave Kauai, we dream of the seafood rockets and pasta Francesca at Postcards. "

"A perfect blending of flavors and textures, beautifully presented."

"This was the best seafood we've had in the islands."

"Our favorite restaurant - three nights in a row!"

"Wish there was a Postcards Café in our town."

Simply the best bar on the North Shore, especially if you're looking for a little local flavor.

    WOW!
My husband and I recently renewed our wedding vows on Kauai and had the huge pleasure of renting this home with other couples. The property was beautiful, the views are stunning and every bedroom was a suite in itself. The Master Bedroom upstairs is so big and gorgeous with views in all directions. We also used the property to have numerous group get-togethers. It worked out perfectly. The house is very well equipped with thick towels and very comfortable bedding. Everything that you need is there. Just bring your bathing suit and toothbrush ;) Highly recommend for family get-togethers! Live like a celebrity :)

    Truly World Class Accomodations
We used the this estate for a week long company retreat, and it was everything we could have dreamed and more. The sea views are dazzling from every single area in and around the house. The kitchen, dining, and living areas were luxurious but inviting. The rooms were spacious and impeccably decorated and maintained. The caretaker Thomas overlooked no details and was amazingly helpful throughout the week.

Our retreat went perfectly and all the staff left with memories of their Hawaiian dream house. The best accommodation choice I've ever made!

    Paradise Found
I have been to various Hawaii islands several times for vacation, but Hale Mana is quite the exception to the ordinary travel paradigm. Hale Mana is a space for the discerning traveler seeking something "truly" extra-special. This is the place to relax, pamper yourself, recharge, and simply let the amazing views – indoors and out from virtually every space of this location - humble you with their natural beauty. This home serves as an ideal destination for large family get-aways seeking a place to create memories of a lifetime. The location, views and amenities of Hale Mana are perfect. The beach at Hale Mana is spectacular and inviting, too; the perfect place to relax and swim in privacy. Everything at Hale Mana is first-class.

    Perfect Kauai Getaway
Spent a long week at Hale Mana and as with our previous visits had a fabulous stay. The setting of Hale Mana could not be better. Unobstructed ocean views, private beach, and secluded setting make it the perfect place to unwind and relax. Away from the busy end of the island, yet only a 30 min drive from the airport. Perfect access to Hanalei and area restaurants, or stay in and enjoy the gourmet chefs kitchen or multiple outdoor grilling stations. So much to do or just take in a day at the beach. Truly a one of a kind destination. Two Thumbs Up!!

    Kim, Girls Getaway!
The home was amazing. Everything from the size of the bedrooms, the fresh flowers, the fabulous view, EVERYTHING! I would not hesitate at all to recommend this home to anyone. It was also immaculate inside and out.

“We rented this property for a corporate retreat through a rental agency- we found we didn’t need to contact them during our stay as the owners went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Highly recommended!"

    Aloha Dick & Nancy
"As we approach the end of our two weeks I want you to know how appreciative Nancy and I are ----- and what a great place this is. The house is both huge and exquisite, the location is absolutely tops and the owners are great. We have been in some great houses -- but the view from this point and the house are the best. The four TRUE master suites make this location a great spot for large gatherings -- everyone has a great ocean view room! I highly recommend this location for your most discriminating members!! Thanks again for everything."

“Why waste money on the Ritz or the 4 Seasons when all the amenities are at Hale Mana? Privacy is such a rare commodity. Sunrise of the ocean on a cliff above the sea is not to be forgotten.”

Rob Dorman (Proprietor of Celebrity Getaways International)

"I would like to take this opportunity to again say mahalo for the recent weekend vacation stay at Hale Mana. It was very special to experience the elegance and beauty of your vacation home and the newly landscaped grounds. As for the beach below the estate, it is truly one of the best on the island and almost always without any people.

I know my clients visiting through my travel business will also enjoy their vacation in such a unique and premier vacation location."
